The Best of 2024 in Soapstone, Slate, and Wood Countertops (and more!)

Every year, we round up our favorite projects and share them as inspiration as you design your kitchen, bathrooms, and other spaces. This year, we saw certain materials used more and more in homes, and custom wood furniture also stood out this year.

Check out these photos, and start planning your projects for the new year!

Shipping across the country

In 2024, we saw more and more shipping across the country to bring homeowners the high-quality soapstone, slate, and wood that they’re looking for. Here’s how we pack some of these large orders, so they’re still in great condition when they arrive.

We shipped this huge sink-backsplash combination to California along with its steel base ready for installation: https://www.instagram.com/p/DADbCElx-st/?img_index=1

Sometimes the customer needs a large slate slab to complete their vision! This 2cm Valongo Black™️ slab was shipped to NY https://www.instagram.com/p/C_-Rn-Cuxqq/

These custom pieces were shipped to Idaho: three sinks and oversized Old Dominion slabs. Can’t wait to see them installed! https://www.instagram.com/p/C9FTOcPR_l8/?img_index=1

Here’s the truck packed and ready to ship 33 pieces of Valongo Black™️ natural cleft slabs to NY for steps and risers! https://www.instagram.com/p/C9SFSLLxYzp/

Green Slate: More than a Trend

When you’re working with natural materials, they’re more than a trend. These pieces will stand the test of time. And right now, green slate is having its moment. We love seeing the unique designs people have in their homes, and how the stone contributes to their personal style. Soapstone is also available in green if you prefer that texture.

This homeowner called us for service to refinish their green slate perimeter and make it look like new. We love how the combination with a Cherry wood island: https://www.instagram.com/p/C9NY-H1RsiS/?img_index=6

This 2” thick hearth and ¾” thick fireplace surround make a statement in this home, and we love the results (and it looks great with those floors!)  https://www.instagram.com/p/C5xvWpJOjwB/?img_index=4

This rooftop kitchen in Brooklyn was perfected with a material that will withstand the elements. The oversized backsplash and long countertops means they’ll probably be enjoying more meals outside than inside! https://www.instagram.com/p/C1HKqqggN38/?img_index=2

Outdoor Spaces

Speaking of outdoor spaces, slate and soapstone make the best outdoor kitchen materials because they can withstand all the elements without staining or cracking. That’s the benefit of a non-porous material. We love to see homes creating an outdoor oasis with natural materials that will last for decades.

This home in a shore town has the backyard you’ll never want to leave: grilling area perimeter, a soapstone bar and a fire pit made from Noire slate/soapstone: https://www.instagram.com/p/DAYBznOxPkQ/?img_index=7
