What’s Unique About Soapstone
What makes soapstone unique? It’s no surprise that we, Garden State Soapstone ™, are all about unique soapstone and other natural stones for countertops.
But what’s so special about soapstone? Why is it better, or even different, than other natural stones?
We hear questions like these all the time.
Of course, soapstone is beautiful. Soapstone countertops are a natural centerpiece to your kitchen. They can pair with white marble or dark cabinets, but their dark tones and subtle movements make them an eye-catching focal point.
Varieties like Churchill are found with minimal veining and blue-grey untreated, and darker Black tones when treated. Beleza has Dark green black tones when untreated, and dark green undertones with black depth or movement when treated. Noire has moderate to dramatic white veining, with black background when treated with our organic wax or organic oil.
Each slab is completely different. Combined with its durability and utilitarian uses, soapstone is simply unique.
Traditional Soapstone is a softer stone, consisting mostly of talc. So is it really durable?
In fact, soapstone is incredibly durable.
Soapstone can withstand temperatures of a 1000 degrees Fahrenheit. It won’t crack or burn if a hot pan is set on top, and it is frequently used as a tool for baking and grilling. If your soapstone scratches, it can easily be sanded off without the help of a professional, very consumer friendly.
Soapstone’s durability goes beyond heat. Soapstone is an impermeable material, meaning that it doesn’t absorb water and resists stains. Unlike marble, acids won’t cause the countertop to etch, and it does not need chemically harsh sealers, or any sealers at all. Soapstone can be cleaned with mild soap and water.
It’s also sustainable. Soapstone is a natural stone that can be extracted with sustainable quarrying methods. It doesn’t need disruptive blasting or chemicals. Varieties like Churchill and Old Dominion are quarried in Virginia, creating a smaller carbon footprint for your countertop.
Finally, soapstone lasts forever.
No matter what style or trend, soapstone can be used in traditional or rustic homes, to contemporary and modern. Soapstone has been used for thousands of years, and it’s here to stay.
