In The Spotlight: PA Soapstone

In The Spotlight: PA Soapstone

PA Soapstone, short for Pinheiros Altos, is a harder variety of soapstone that sits at a 5.0 on the Mohs Scale. When treated, Pinheiros Altos is dark black, with off-white veins containing a slight green hue. Pinheiros Altos contains less talc than traditional varieties of soapstone, like Mariana or Churchill. Because it is a harder than traditional soapstone, it has been favorable to architects and homeowners alike. Pinheiros Altos is naturally darker, ages faster, and may require less waxing or oiling after installation. PA soapstone is found in Brazil at the Pinheiros Altos formation. Garden State Soapstone ™ is proud to carry this unique variety.

How to care for your new PA Soapstone countertops:

  • Use organic soapstone wax or organic soapstone oil
  • Apply with a clean, soft cloth in a circular motion across the entire countertop
  • Immediately after application, use a second cloth to buff the entire countertop until it feels dry to the touch.

Waxing and oiling enhances the beauty of the soapstone’s natural patina and allows for an even aging, or darkening, process to occur over time.
